Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about CSRD compliance requirements and reporting standards.
Double Materiality
What is Double Materiality?
Double Materiality is the key principle of CSRD, combining two perspectives for sustainability reporting: Impact Materiality (how your company's activities impact the environment and society) and Financial Materiality (how sustainability issues impact your financial performance). Companies must assess each sustainability topic from both perspectives. If a topic is material in either dimension, it must be reported.
Example of Double Materiality in Practice:
If water usage doesn't directly affect your financial performance but significantly impacts the local community (impact materiality), you must report it. If climate risks could materially affect your financials (financial materiality), they must be reported even if the direct environmental impact is minimal.
Why It's Important:
Double Materiality ensures transparency about both environmental and societal impacts, as well as the financial risks from sustainability issues. This dual focus provides a comprehensive sustainability view, allowing stakeholders to understand the complete picture.
